All the background music on Hawaiioceansports.com is performed by Kealli’i Reichel (and used with his permission). Born and raised in Maui, Kealli’i has been instrumental in promoting Hawaiian culture and language throughout the world through his songs, traditional chants and hula.
Kealli’I has won 19 prestigious Na Hoku Hanohano awards (the Hawaiian “Grammy”) and places consistently in Billboard Magazine’s World Music Charts. He performs in Hawaii, the mainland and internationally.
In addition to his accomplishments as a singer and chanter, Kealli’I is a founding director of Punana Leo O Maui, a Hawaiian Language Immersion school, and has founded his own Hula Halau. He has taught Hawaiian Language and Culture at Maui Community College and served as the Hawaiian Cultural Resource Specialist and curator at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku.
