Ocean Sports

History

In 1981, with a card table and a good idea, company founder and President Judith Jennet opened Ocean Sports at the beach at Anaeho'omalu Bay. Today, USCG Captain and Naui Scuba Instructor Judi actively manages the land based side of the business, but you can also find her on the beach, the dock or aboard our boats.

USCG Captain Nick Craig helped Judi open Ocean Sports in 1981. Between jaunts to the Carribean, Fiji and Southern California, Nick has spent most of the last two decades on the Big Island, teaching diving as a Naui Scuba Instructor, and captaining our boats. Today, you can meet Captain Nick in our beach hut, our whale center, driving our buses or skippering the catamarans or Glass Bottom Boat.

USCG Captain Claire Muchin began her ocean career in 1989 working on the beach and in the beach hut for Ocean Sports. Born and raised in the Midwest , Claire had never stepped foot aboard a boat, but by 1990 she was certified as a Naui Scuba Instructor and was forced to learn how to crew on a boat. After designing and implementing training programs for new crew, Claire eventually got her captain's license. Today you can find her aboard any of our boats, captaining, crewing, teaching or just keeping things running.

USCG Captain Jeff Baker turned a love for windsurfing into a lifelong career as a sailing captain. Sailing the Kohala Coast since 1986, Jeff shares his love of the ocean (and his love of the Dallas Cowboys) with guests and crew aboard the Seasmoke, the Alala and the Glass Bottom Boat.

Of course Ocean Sports couldn't operate without our Boat Crew and Marine Naturalists, Shane, Ryan , Chad , Zach, Patrick, Jamie, RC, Mike, and Gary. And it's our land based staff of Kay, Rene, Tootsie, Margaret, Sue and Christy that keeps everything running smoothly.

Come and meet the gang at Ocean Sports! We look forward to sharing all those local secrets that can make this vacation your best one ever!
